Thank you to everyone who attended our Town Hall last week. For those who were unable to join us, I'd like to take this opportunity to share the results of our Snow and Ice Survey.
We received roughly 638 responses—thank you to everyone who took the time to participate! Your feedback is invaluable and will help inform future discussions about snow and ice maintenance in our community.
The neighbourhoods with the highest participation were:
- Terwillegar – 71 respondents (11%)
- Keswick – 62 respondents (10%)
- Windermere – 59 respondents (9%)
- Bulyea/Brookview – 48 respondents (8%)
- Outside the ward – 78 respondents (12%)
Now, let's take a closer look at what we heard from you through the Snow and Ice Survey
In your opinion, what is the most important priority for residential snow removal?
Are you currently signed up to receive snow removal parking ban notifications?
How do you currently receive notifications?
How clear are the current parking ban notifications in telling you when to move your vehicle?
What improvements would make notifications easier to understand?
How would you rate the level of compliance with parking bans in your area this winter?
To what extent do you agree that parking ban enforcement (more officers available) should be increased to improve compliance?
How much of a challenge are windrows (snow piles) on sidewalks in your neighbourhood?
Have you experienced issues with water pooling due to melting windrows and re-freezing?
Have windrows made roads feel narrower or more difficult to navigate in your neighbourhood?
Have windrows limited parking in your neighbourhood?
Have windrows limited blocking access to your driveway?
Some residents reported confusion because cul-de-sac clearing occurs outside of Phase 2 due to equipment requirements, but this was not clearly communicated in public updates. How clear was communication from the City regarding when cul-de-sac snow clearing would occur?
Residents have noted that some cul-de-sacs are marked as “done” even though they are cleared on a different schedule, leading to confusion and frustration. How clearly does the snow clearing map communicate the status of cul-de-sacs?
Would adding a note on the snow clearing map indicating that cul-de-sacs are cleared on a different schedule improve the City’s communication?
To what extent did snow piles remain in your cul-de-sac for an extended period before being removed by the City?
Did you experience difficulties with Waste Services on bin collection days as a result of snow removal occurring in your neighbourhood / snow piles?
What is your opinion on the City’s use of calcium chloride for snow and ice control? Please note, I am in opposition of it.
How satisfied are you with the consistency of snow grading across different streets in your neighbourhood?
